Select employees will begin testing research glasses in the wild this September. Facebook provided several updates on its mysterious smart glasses as part of today’s Facebook Connect developer conference. Referred to as Project Aria, this bleeding-edge research device uses machine perception and AI research to safely gather data in an effort to answer key questions, both technological and ethical, regarding the use of AR technology in a public setting.
Some hours ago the Facebook Connect keynote has finished, so I think it is time to do a quick recap of the most important news announced there. This post is just a short summary of the best of the announcements until now, in case you missed it and you wanted to catch up with the news. With the revelation of Quest 2, Facebook has quietly knocked down the entry price for its business-focused version of the headset. When Quest first launched in 2019, we called it the “first great standalone VR headset,” owing to it being a truly complete package between hardware, software, and content. Oculus is finally getting serious about offering first-party ergonomic accessories. The company will offer several accessories for Quest 2 to help you get the ideal fit. Quest 2 ships with a soft strap, but from our review of the headset we think you’re probably going to want something more substantial to add better support and a counterweight.

Available October 13th for an incredible $299 (64GB) and $399 (256GB), the Oculus Quest 2 features an all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chipset, offering more power and speed compared to the original Oculus Quest’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.
The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset was leaked in a since removed promotional video uploaded to a marketing hub run by parent company Facebook. The new HMD will be powered by Qualcomm’s XR specific Snapdragon XR2 platform, unlike the general purpose Snapdragon 835 that powered the original Quest. The new headset adds 2 additional gigs of RAM for a total of 6 gigs of RAM.
