Hart District Union School District will discuss the possibility of leasing 69 virtual reality headsets from Transfr. The US school district is look to add 69 headsets to support extended day and summer career experience courses by improving access to VR equipment for all students, including the ‘underrepresented’. You no longer need 3 separate PC applications for official Meta Quest casting, PC VR, and remote desktop. Meta has now built casting and remote desktop into Meta Quest Link, the Windows application also used to let your Quest headset act as a PC VR headset, a first-party alternative to Steam Link and Virtual Desktop. You can already cast the view from your Quest to a web browser on your PC, but this only supports widescreen aspect ratio, not uncropped square, and doesn't have built-in recording.

Shiftall has launched pre-orders for its newly unveiled MeganeX superlight 8K, a slim and light, high-resolution OLED PC VR headset tracked by SteamVR base stations. While Panasonic sold off its XR hardware startup Shiftall earlier this year, the companies held a joint press conference in Tokyo yesterday to announce MeganeX superlight 8K, which is slated to start shipping between February and March 2025.

Meta's CTO confirmed to The Verge earlier reporting about two 2027 headsets, one canceled and the other being worked on. The reporting in question came from The Information back in August. The outlet first reported that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and CTO Andrew Bosworth canceled La Jolla, the high-end headset they had planned for 2027 that likely would have been a Quest Pro 2.

Samsung and Google announced in early 2023 that, along with Qualcomm, they’d be releasing an “XR platform” based on Android , which could also see the release of a high-end mixed reality headset. While we still haven’t heard exactly what that XR partnership will entail, a new report from The Information maintains Samsung and Google are also working on smartglasses positioned to potentially compete with Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

Porting mixed reality games from Quest to AR glasses won't be as easy as it might seem.
