We are at the beginning of March and I just realized that I haven’t written yet a post with my predictions for augmented and virtual reality for this year. So (a bit late) here you are a list of some of the most relevant XR trends to follow in 2024, with some predictions of what to expect next. (Some of them have been brainstormed with Lorenzo Cappannari with whom I wrote an article a few months ago and who I thank for the collaboration ).

Sony says it’s bringing some form of PC VR support to PSVR 2 at some point this year, although it’s not clear when, or even how the company will go about letting users play games like Half-Life: Alyx (2020) or popular social VR platforms equally missing from the headset’s game catalogue. But some won’t have to wait: iVRy , an unofficial project dedicated to the task, is bringing it long-awaited SteamVR driver to PSVR 2 sometime next month.

LG just officially announced an XR "strategic collaboration" with Meta. Earlier today, Mark Zuckerberg met with LG CEO William Cho and the president of LG's Home Entertainment division Park Hyoung-sei at LG's headquarters in Seoul to finalize the details of the partnership. This is Zuckerberg's first publicly-known trip to South Korea since 2014, when he visited Samsung to finalize the Gear VR smartphone-holder headset partnership.

Tenstorrent this week announced that it had signed a deal to license out its RISC-V CPU and AI processor IP to Japan's Leading-edge Semiconductor Technology Center (LSTC), which will use the technology to build its edge-focused AI accelerator. A prominent supply chain analyst claims mass production of the successor to Apple Vision Pro will begin in late 2025 or early 2026. Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been reporting on Apple's supply chain for more than 10 years, released a report today with a number of claims about Vision Pro's success and Apple's future plans for it and future models. Back in January Kuo claimed Apple would only have 60,000–80,000 units available for launch day, and that Apple had 160,000–180,000 US preorders.
