To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
Spatial computing intersects with affective computing: “computing that relates to, arises from, or deliberately influences emotions.” UX design specialist Stef Hutka tells us how. This post appeared first on AR Insider.

So, I’m back home — after flying to Lima, Peru for an AI conference last week. I was there to give a keynote speech about AI. The whole flight over I was worried that Nvidia or OpenAI or someone else would announce news of such major importance that I’d have to scrap my entire presentation and start over — fortunately, while there was, in fact, some news, I didn’t have to do any major revisions.
Despite the chorus of punditry on Apple Vision Pro, its real fate lies in an x-factor: What the market will bear. But until brands and enterprises vote with their wallets, we can look to survey data to take their temperature. This post appeared first on AR Insider.
Popular rhythm shooter Metal: Hellsinger (2022) is getting a VR version, bringing its frenetic action and metal-heavy soundtrack to all major VR headsets this year. (Image by Maria Korolov via Adobe Firefly.) Could Mark Zuckerberg’s lust-driven quest to own VR, AR and mixed reality end up costing Meta at the end of the day? That’s a question being posed after The Information reported recently that Google had approached Meta partner with its new software platform — Google Android XR — that is being developed for virtual reality.
Meta confirmed that Quest 3 owners have higher retention than owners of its previous headsets. Industry speculation and analysis often focuses on headset unit sales, but what really matters to both Meta and developers is how many buyers actually regularly use the headset instead of leaving it on a shelf or in a drawer. By March 2023 Meta had sold nearly 20 million Quest headsets, and in October 2022 6.37 million owners reportedly actually used their headset that month.
The convergence of XR and risk management has gained attention among industrial enterprises keen on visualizing hazards in a simulated environment. How is it playing out? This post appeared first on AR Insider.
Meta announced last year it was sunsetting the original Quest , which was first released in 2019. While many developers of new apps have since stopped including the nearly five year-old headset as a supported device, now the company says it’s taking choice out of the equation, as no new apps will be able to offer support for Quest 1 starting on April 30th.

Meta announced it’s pushing a major change to Workrooms , its virtual collaboration space that connects both VR and video chat users. The overhaul is set to improve, but also remove a slate of features, so Meta is suggesting active users download important data before the update’s May 30th rollout. Launched in 2021, Workrooms was designed to be a fully-functional virtual meeting space that leveraged a companion app for both PC or Mac, letting you stream your computer’s desktop and s

In a recent report , Apple’s CEO and spatial computing champion, Tim Cook , confirmed that the recently released Apple Vision Pro would land in China in 2024. The news comes as Apple plans to scale its investment into its Chinese regional partners that are already assisting the firm in creating device components and controlling supply chains. The CEO is visiting China due to a decline in iPhone sales.
A new Apple Pencil that supports Vision Pro is being tested by Apple, according to MacRumors. MacRumors cites "a source familiar with the matter" as saying Apple has internally tested such a stylus to allow drawing in visionOS apps like Freeform. The report doesn't however go into any specific detail on how the new device works. Supporting the report's claims, in February a VR developer found a reference to a 'Stylus' in the Unity PolySpatial package for visionOS. 0:00 / 0:17 1× Drawing in Visio

Since when has learning and development (L&D) become such a negative experience with its intended learners? Could it be because learners have been conditioned by very poor learning experiences over the past two decades, combined with the kinks of technological innovation? Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?
