If you find yourself on the run from the Empire, you no longer need a droid to send a holographic distress message, you just need an iPhone X and the HoloBack app. Now available in the App Store, HoloBack uses the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X to create instant 3D imagery of a user's face or other objects. Users can view their scans in their physical environment via ARKit and send them to friends, who can also view the content through the app.

Luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has joined the growing list of automakers adopting augmented reality to provide an assist to its manufacturing operations, in this case, via the Microsoft HoloLens. The company employs more than 100 HoloLens devices in its Mercedes-Benz Global Training program, where about 450 management, product, branding, and sales employees have access to the devices.
A dedicated VR gamer has developed a 30-minute workout routine using Beat Saber and the results are promising. After an unfortunate series of car accidents that resulted in permanent injury to both his back and neck, Robert Long wasn’t sure how he’d recover. Stress hormones at the hands of depression caused Robert to gain weight, preventing doctors from making key procedures to his damaged back.

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
There are plenty of great games out there for Oculus Rift, with the Oculus Store featuring a number of top titles certainly worth your hard-earned money. But before you crack that wallet too wide open, you may want to take a look at some seriously cool free content out there on the Oculus Store right now. High production value, engaging VR mechanics, Touch optimization: the games below have it all.
Magic Leap finally materializes into a product some of us can actually buy, yet the real test will be whether developers take the bait. After a series of hints revealed by CEO Rony Abovitz via Twitter, Magic Leap looks like it is ready to launch Magic Leap One on 8/8/2018 at 8:08. Rony Aboviz changed his twitter profile's header to this launching whales image at 8:08pm on 8/7/2018. One day before launch. At 8:08 pm ET this evening, Abovitz changed his avatar to a floating Magic Leap spaceman, his twitter cover image to launching whales, and tweeted a link to the Wikipedia page for the Roland TR-808.
Microsoft just announced new tools to make it easier for users to build and share their own virtual spaces. In a virtual Town Hall today, AltspaceVR unveiled a suite of tools that will allow anyone to build customizable VR spaces. The two new world-building kits are based on Altspace’s most popular environments: Campfire and Alien World / Origin but Microsoft says they’re aiming to release more kits soon, as well as allwing for more customization options.
Marvel Powers United VR launched less than two weeks ago, but it seems the developers at Sanzaru Games are hard at work to get the game’s first patch out the door. Due to launch “in a few weeks,” the studio has published the release notes of the first patch, seemingly in an effort to assure players that post-launch support is well underway.
Finally, the day has come. After a lot of words, flying whales, rock throwing guys and a lot of debates, Magic Leap has been released. You can buy it on the company website. Really, in the past years I thought this day would have never arrived… and instead, sometimes the unexpected happens. Let’s start from the bad news: the device is expensive and costs $2295.
With a rapidly changing economy, Avangrid Renewables looked to virtual reality to develop a standardized form of immersive training in order to onboard and upskill technicians faster than ever before.
In a surprising twist of expectation management, Magic Leap manged to not only ship but deliver the Magic Leap One I ordered at this morning by 4pm on the same day. After spending about an hour with the headset running through setup and poking around its UI and a couple of the launch day Apps, I thought it would be helpful to share a quick list of some of my first impressions as someone who's spent a lot of time with a HoloLens over the past couple years and try to start answering many of the bu
Does Austin have the largest VR community outside of Los Angeles? This was a question I asked myself several times last summer before moving. I was familiar with Austin, Texas because of SXSW — having attended with my previous employer, Emblematic Group. But visiting the city for work was wildly different from uprooting my life. After resigning from my job, I stalled a bit before making the decision — ultimately, major power players like Patrick Curry from FarBridge, Aaron Lemke from TheWaveVR,
Electronauts sits at an interesting intersection somewhere between game, experience, and tool. Your experience with Electronauts then may vary depending upon what you hope to achieve with it. If you’re anything like me—someone who can fall deep into music, but isn’t musically trained—you’ll find a totally unique and approachable platform for expressing your inner groove.
For Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality applications to work as mass market propositions, we need GUP infrastructure. One company is leveraging blockchain to do just that. When you mention “Pokemon Go,” everyone remembers bumping into walls, people and maybe even cars, trying to catch rare AR characters from their phone, but there is a lot more to Augmented Reality than crossing the road without paying attention as you’re chasing little creatures on your screen.

With 191 country signatories to the Paris Climate Agreement now hard at work in the race to zero carbon by 2050, much of the heavy lifting in ecosystem sustainability falls on the shoulders of the world's densely populated urban centers. This conversation considers how today's AI-enabled simulation media, such as AR/VR, can be effectively applied to accelerate learning, understanding, training, and solutions-modeling to sustainability planning and design.
The hype train that left the station years ago has reached its first stop, and now we finally have access to the Magic Leap One, the device many have claimed would revolutionize the augmented reality space at launch. But is that really true? On Wednesday morning, as Next Reality predicted late Tuesday night, the company took the wraps off its device and opened up orders to the public.
Experience life in Hiroshima before, during, and after nuclear warfare decimated the famous Japanese city. On August 6th, 1945, at 8:15 in the morning, the United States military dropped the nuclear weapon “Little Boy” on the city of Hiroshima, a major urban center located on the Japanese island of Honshu. Upon detonation, over 70,000 human beings, including 20,000 Japanese combatants as well as 2,000 Korean slave laborers, were killed almost instantly, with another 90,000–166,000 eventually dyi
VR feels like it’s simultaneously moving fast and slow. It’s been two years and four months since the leading PC VR headsets, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, hit shelves. The leading high-end headset overall, PSVR, has only been around for one year and nine months. That’s a significant amount of time for individual products, but just a blip in the context of the formation of a brand new ecosystem and medium.
There is all this hype for Magic Leap in these days, but so few people can try it, because it costs too much and ships only in selected regions. I wanted to make the Magic Leap experience available to more people, that’s why I’ve made a Magic Leap One emulator for the Vive Focus. Well, sort of. Look at the video… Yeah, of course, I was kidding.
Remote meetings are here to stay - and many are BORING. If you are trying to engage your learners (or any audience), compelling content is critical. But trying to create stimulating content with the same tools you’ve always had is hard, right? Thankfully, wrong! Terrific tools in PowerPoint along with visual assets help you create the kind of dynamic content you need to capture your remote audience’s attention, with functions that allow for interactive sequences and navigation.
Already one of the leaders in augmented reality for cosmetics, L'Oréal is extending the reach of its ModiFace virtual try-on platform through a partnership with Facebook. The first such experience, launching later this month, will feature NYX Professional Makeup, with other brands, such as Maybelline, L'Oréal Paris, Lanc
Apple’s popular smartwatch is even cooler with high-quality augmented widgets powered by ARKit. When he’s not delivering expert-level gestures and animations to iOS applications, iOS Design Technologist, Nathan Glitter , is busy sinking his teeth into another budding user experience: augmented reality. So far the talented developer has managed to create a Hogwarts-style newspaper experience , educational augmented artwork , even time-traveling graffiti that shows you older artwork now covered by

I’m back in Italy. My vacation in China has finished and I’m in my home country again. Being in China has been wonderful and I have really sweet memories of it… I’ll return there for sure, there are so many things I have still to discover. Travelling have been really tiresome: the flight lasted around 11 hours and then there was all the time to get from and to the two airports and all the waiting times… from the time I left my hotel in Beijing to the moment I opened

Since when has learning and development (L&D) become such a negative experience with its intended learners? Could it be because learners have been conditioned by very poor learning experiences over the past two decades, combined with the kinks of technological innovation? Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?
With the official launch of Magic Leap One expected by the end of summer (translation: days from now), Magic Leap's hype machine just took a big hit with the sudden loss of a key marketing executive. Magic Leap confirmed the departure of Jeff Gattis, vice president of product marketing, to Recode and cited "personal reasons" regarding the reason for his sudden departure.
Lufthansa partners with 3Spin to deliver a unique VR experience featuring 3D maps of mountain tops, lakes, and cities, all in real-time. ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, please buckle up your seatbelts, move your seats and trays in the upright position, put on your VR headsets and prepare for takeoff.’. Those are the words that Lufthansa airlines passengers will hear coming out of the PA system of the massive Airbus A330 as they travel from Frankfurt, Germany to Dubai on flight LH630.
Ahead of the launch of the Magic Leap One , several press outlets got a chance to see the device up close and personal. The Verge’s Adi Robertson was among those who got to peer through the purported magical device, but came away feeling like the headset doesn’t do much to differentiate itself from Microsoft’s HoloLens, which launched two years prior.
