These high-flying women are literally out of this world. In honor of International Women’s Day, the Emmy Award-Winning Felix & Paul Studios has released Women In Spaceflight , a new VR film celebrating the many accomplishments of female spacefarers. Available now on Quest headsets, the six-minute 360-degree special feature pays homage to the late great Jerrie Cobb, an American aviator who paved the way for female astronauts.

The third Annual Polys WebXR Awards took place this weekend. The show was bigger than ever thanks to the first-ever in-person awards and a special event saying farewell to AltspaceVR. However, despite some new categories, the overall category list was shorter this year as a number of previous awards were combined. Samsung announced last month it was partnering with Google and Qualcomm to develop an XR device, something the company said at the time was “not too far away.” While we’re still left guessing as to what sort of headset the Korean tech giant has in store, a new trademark filing has come to light which may suggest the headset’s naming scheme.

Virtual reality company Flipside XR has launched a new app designed for creators called Flipside Studio. Launched on March 2 with support from Meta, the VR app enables users to build animated content in real time, using advanced virtual production tools. Finished projects can be uploaded and shared on YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, and other social media platforms.

Users of Pimax’s wide field-of-view (FOV) PC VR headsets have always relied upon third-party stores like Steam for VR content. Now the company is looking to incentivize VR developers to publish their games on the new Pimax Store. Pimax quietly launched its PC VR content store in September 2022, ostensibly in preparation for the yet-to-release “Reality 12K QLED” headset, and standalones Pimax Cystal and Pimax Portal hybrid.

According to developer Flipside XR, the free tool features everything from real-time motion capture and professional-grade production tools to various sets, props, and custom avatars.

Virtual reality in the classroom is one of the many uses of immersive technologies. And, wherever it is in use, it has proven to be a great success. The latest educational organization to adopt it is Jackson Public Schools in Mississippi. The second-largest school district in the Magnolia State, comprising seven high schools, 10 middle schools, 31 elementary schools, and four special program schools, has recently announced that its students will now be able to learn using VR.

Gaijin Entertainment, the studio behind combat simulator War Thunder , announced a new flight sim coming to PSVR 2 called Aces of Thunder. The online game is said to focus on World War II planes, such as the American fighter P-51 Mustang and British Spitfire, however future add-ons are planned to bring combat aircraft from other eras, Gaijin says. It’s said to feature competitive online battles including modes like team versus team, single duels, and modes with custom settings.

Earlier this week, a Twitter user going by the name of Shiny Quagsire posted a screenshot indicating the potential release of a VR game pass for Meta Quest headsets. Fans of Echo VR brought the metaverse to Mark Zuckerberg this week. A group called Fight For Echo put an ad above Meta to protest the forthcoming closure of its free-to-play VR esport Echo VR. Almost a year after its initial reveal, Pokémon GO creator Niantic is set to launch its latest location-based augmented reality (AR) game for smartphones, Peridot. Similar to Tamagotchi, the handheld digital pet released in 1996, the adorable-looking game tasks you with raising digital creatures, referred to as “Peridots” or “Dots,” from birth to adulthood.

The CEO of Downpour Interactive resigned from Meta roughly two years after his VR development studio was acquired. Dante Buckley wrote in a note on Facebook, confirmed by UploadVR, that his departure is “by choice” and not in a layoff. Buckley is the creator of one of VR’s leading team-based shooters Onward. In April 2021, Meta announced it had acquired Downpour and its entire team.

If you remember, ChatGPT was released on November 30 of 2022, just in time for take-home exams and final papers.

Schell Games released a new Among Us VR update, adding custom lobby settings and a new hat pack. Previously announced in December’s Among Us VR 2023 roadmap , custom lobby settings are now live as part of the game’s fourth patch. Outlined in a new blog post , Schell claims this allows for “over 9 billion customization configurations,” letting you adjust pace, balancing, and the general rules.
