Mixed reality continues to demonstrate ROI in industrial applications such as remote guidance. But what is the specific value proposition when it comes to boosting safety? This post appeared first on AR Insider.
In this crazy end of the year, here I am, on Friday, the 22nd, writing a roundup with the date of Tuesday, the 19th. The fact is, I had a crazily busy week, so I did not have time to write anything… but this roundup I prepared on Tuesday was so rich that I could not skip it, so I’m just writing it for you now… a bit late, but better late than never.
“Virtual reality is dead.” That’s what we’ve been told about every six months for the better part of a decade now. Anyone who’s been following the space though knows that more people than ever are playing VR games and opening portals to other dimensions right where their living rooms, home offices, or dorm rooms used to be.
Meta is keen to have its hands in almost every emerging technology pie. Namely, within the XR space, the firm works on many related immersive technologies to boost Meta’s hardware and software offerings, from AI to avatars. Another technology space, Meta, is keen to crack the haptics market. It is a space early in its development yet key in providing advanced levels of immersion, input, and feedback during enterprise operations such as training sessions.

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
Led by Quest 3 and Vive XR Elite, mixed reality is becoming a new standard in VR. Will this broaden VR's appeal and use cases to the point that it could become table stakes? We examine in our annual predictions. This post appeared first on AR Insider.
A video posted by a Vision Pro developer appears to show the current levels of hand-tracking and occlusion performance that Apple’s new headset is capable of. Apple Vision Pro, expected to launch in the next few months , will use hand-tracking as its primary input method. While system-level interactions combine hand-tracking with eye-tracking for a ‘look and tap’ modality, developers can also build applications that allow users to interact directly with applications using their

As of 2023, around 171 million people are using VR headsets worldwide. Most people have already heard of both “Meta”, the world-leading technology company, and the “Quest” line of VR headsets. However, there are still plenty of people confused about what “Quest” actually is.

Microsoft announced this week that it plans to remove support for its entire WMR platform on Windows, which could make Windows VR headsets inoperable. A Good Start Microsoft was surprisingly quick to jump into the VR sphere back in 2017 when it helped a handful of PC makers build the first widely available PC VR headsets with inside-out tracking. If you’re just getting into VR, chances are you haven’t played Asgard’s Wrath , the Meta-funded RPG from Sanzaru Games that came exclusive to Oculus Rift in 2019. At the time, the 30+ hour adventure was one of the first VR games of ‘AAA’ scope, basically setting the bar for what was possible in VR. Take it from us: Sanzaru has done it again, this time creating the next big benchmark to beat for games on Quest.

Quest Pro's face tracking now includes your tongue too. In our review of Quest Pro last year, we pointed out how moving your tongue would break the illusion when looking in a virtual mirror to see your facial expressions. Not having it also limits expressiveness in social VR. 0:00 / 0:07 1× Quest Pro's original face tracking, without tongue. In version 60 of its SDKs for Unity and native code, Meta has released a new version of its face tracking OpenXR extension which now includes the tongue too

Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?
