According to a patent released last week by the US Patent and Trademark Office, AR startup MagicLeap has begun exploring the concept of smart glasses that can “monitor glucose levels over time” along with other vitals. The patent was first filed by MagicLeap in November of last year.
MagicLeap is a mystery. Now founder and CEO Rony Abovitz offers a bit more in his recent blog post entitled Creativity Matters , where he speaks about some of the changes coming to the company in 2017, and for what it’s worth, says it’ll be “a big year for MagicLeap.”
By merging the work being done at Luxexcel and WaveOptics, the two companies are promising an AR headset that is more streamlined than existing solutions such as Nreal or MagicLeap. This is a device you could wear as you shop, hang out with friends, or exercise.

Furthermore, this mobile AR market-sizing exercise reveals another key factor: platform fragmentation. MagicLeap is building a software ecosystem around its product. Along with all of web AR’s technical and practical benefits explored above, this scale and headroom could be a big confidence signal.
ARtillery Intelligence recently performed this exercise including compatible hardware bases and active users (see below). Furthermore, this mobile AR market-sizing exercise reveals another factor: platform fragmentation. MagicLeap is building a software ecosystem around its product.

We’ve been toying with this “ follow the money ” exercise for a while, but it gained steam at Facebook’s recent OC6 event. Just like MagicLeap has the Magicverse , this is essentially Facebook’s flavor of the AR Cloud.
One such exercise recently zeroed in on headworn AR revenues. Meanwhile, the previously-beleaguered MagicLeap has quite a turnaround underway. MagicLeap’s second act is perhaps the most notable phenomenon in the AR glasses landscape. At the center of it all is AR’s comeback kid, MagicLeap 2 ( see our review ).

For Alibaba, this foray into VR is far more than a simple exercise in branding. Alibaba also led this year’s investment round for mixed-reality company MagicLeap. Earlier this year the company announced the creation of their Buy+ division which has been tasked with creating a fully immersive VR shopping experience.
This exercise includes pinpointing fitting AR use cases, as well as more granular strategies around user experience (UX). MagicLeap’s first consumer AR headset has just come to market and shows some interesting thinking as its’ offered in two sizes, as well as each size coming with a “fit kit” offering a number of shaped pieces for the nose and the head padding.
AR Insider’s ongoing coverage of The AR Show episodes is an exercise in deconstructing and synthesizing the musings of spatial computing’s top minds. This “ follow the money ” exercise is a key AR confidence signal. Then there’s MagicLeap. See past and future episodes here or subscribe.
With Hardware (cellphones) having enough processing power to overlay decent digital content over the real world when seen through a cellphone camera, it’s now feasible to play AR ‘games’ and tournaments such as Hado World that give e-sports a whole new meaning, exercising the body and not just a player’s thumbs!
. “That might sound a little counterintuitive to folks,” remarked Wright, who also noted that Campfire is observing that customers are buying the Quest 3 for consumer needs like gaming or exercise, but after that initial purchase, those buyers will take the device to work and discover new use cases.
But despite the option to “jack in” in the distant future, plenty of people will still opt to use the treadmill and haptics combo for the exercise benefits. Even if they are not general-purpose glasses like Hololens or MagicLeap, these glasses feature inside so many technological innovations that made all we of the tech communities fall in love with them, and with their creator Jeri Ellsworth. Two short news on content.
Smart glass manufacturers and solution providers like Vuzix, Google, Nreal, RealWear, Lenovo, MagicLeap, and others offer full-spectrum devices capable of agile use cases.
