Unreal Engine 4 is also an industry standard although it has a steeper learning curve than Unity. You basically start completing tasks such as watching online videos, readings, and practice exercises.
We hoped to come out of this exercise with findings that could apply to all platforms with motion controls: from Daydream’s Wiimote-style controller, to the advanced room-tracking controllers of the Vive and Rift. As far as production software, we were torn between our familiarity with Unity and the rendering potential of Unreal.
Graphically, the game uses the Unreal Engine 4 to modest effect. Going through the three to four hours of Loading Human: Chapter 1 is an exercise in patience. Support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive is coming soon. There are fewer bugs this way, but the sense of immersion is much lower. Final Score: 4/10 – Forgettable.
