We’ve also talked about the latencies that we can expect today from cloud rendering. The keys to having a good experience, of course, are frame rate and latency, and we manage the frame rate within the CloudXR package to match the one of the end device we’re streaming to. The latency … that is the big question, right?
Image by Oculus). The other bombshell news is that Resident Evil 4 is coming to the Oculus Quest 2. On April, 21st, Oculus will host its first Gaming Showcase , with news on ‘Lone Echo II’, ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’, and many other titles. Google is hiring waveguide developers for AR. Top news of the week.
Rendering immersive XR experiences in the cloud, compressing the video and audio streams, and serving that up to VR and AR devices for interactive experiences over 5G and WiFi networks—all at a low enough latency to make it feel like you’re tethered to powerful PC—is no small feat. That’s XR cloud streaming in a nutshell.
The headset, which holds the user’s smartphone, is little more than a plastic shell with lenses which undoubtedly hooks into the massive, but decidedly low-ish quality Google Cardboard content store. SEE ALSO Oculus Go is Facebook's Affordable Standalone Headset Priced at $200, Shipping Early 2018.

When developing the first prototype standalone Daydream headsets, Google based their work on the Qualcomm VRDK, and, subsequently, both HTC and Lenovo’s standalone Daydream headsets will be built on the same foundation. OmniVision specifically positions the OV9282 image sensor as ideal for VR headsets thanks to the low latency.
It is a bit like GIT (or Google Doc, if you find it easier to imagine), but for artists and designers. Because there are people in the communities that think that it is (and will be) impossible that wherever we are, there is always a server close-enough to do the rendering with minimal latency. There is not only the problem of the timezone but also the unknown of the internet connection and the inability of reaching Western websites like Google. VPN (Image from Know Your Meme) In China, most of the Western websites we use the most, like Google and Facebook, are blocked behind the Great Firewall.

KwikVR, a wireless add-on kit for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, is going to beat TPCAST’s solution to market, but, if you’re desperate for untethered VR, you might want to hold on for the latter’s launch instead of jumping the gun early. I’m also concerned about the products compatibility with the Oculus Rift.

Cloud gaming isn’t a new concept, at least in the world of traditional flatscreen games.
It inherits all the advantages of the base XR2 Gen 2 architecture, including the hardware acceleration for camera passthrough that is said to reduce end-to-end latency to around 12 milliseconds. It's a more premium option for higher-priced headsets, including those designed to take on Apple Vision Pro. Details here: UploadVR David Heaney
Before my demo at Google I/O, Google’s head of VR Clay Bavor outlined a series of caveats and expectations for what I was about to experience. As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). Or is it just a talk about glasses?
SEE ALSO Oculus Quest Supports "Arena-scale" Tracking and Multi-room Guardian. The smartphone itself also has its work cut out for it, as it must simultaneously run ARCore and decode video, which all adds noticeable latency.
VR headsets are designed to block out light and envelop our field of view as completely as possible with high quality, low latency visuals. We mentioned Microsoft already above but Google, Snap, Inc., Google has its Project Tango — a team that has done more to integrate AR technology into existing smartphones than any other.

HTC and Valve do this with their Vive controllers that are super low latency and extremely accurate and Oculus does this with their touch controllers and their extremely natural ergonomics. I do not hold any equity positions with any companies cited in this column.
You can enjoy the full audio recording below: In this week’s VRScout Report, we discuss Oculus Story Studio’s Henry Emmy win, NASA training astronauts with virtual reality gloves, Snapchat flirting with augmented reality, HTC Vive trying to go wireless, and iPhone laying potential plans for VR/AR.
Part of that focus has been on optimizing for latency, Vechey said, in order to make the person to person communication feel as natural as possible. The voice chat portion of Pluto is of decent quality, and also positional, and through I don’t have any hard numbers, the back and forth nature of conversation did feel very tight.
There is not even an assembly kit like with Google Cardboards. If you have already heard his name, it is probably because he is the author of this famous photo of Sergey Brin wearing Google Glass in the metro. I expected a lot of AR/VR news from there, like the announcement of the price of the Vive Pro or the release of the Oculus Go by Xiaomi and Facebook… but actually I’ve been disappointed by everyone. This new technology standard reduces a lot the latency of communication and increments a lot of its speed.
Facebook said that this growth has been mostly due to the sales of Oculus Quest. Admitting that Oculus Quest is the only responsible for this big growth from last year (just an assumption, I want to be clear), we obtain that the sales of Quest for Q3 account for $81M.
