Old school media stalwart The NewYork Times mobile-ar.reality.news/news/new-york-times-adds-ar-its-coverage-time-for-winter-olympics-0182577/ launched its augmented reality news content in 2018 with a feature on the athletes of the Winter Olympics.
The new update brings Street View imagery from 85 countries. Last year Google launched a VR version of Google Earth , letting you visit locations around the world in 3D. Some of my first visits with the new update included dropping in on a couple featured locations like the Colosseum in Rome and the busy streets of NewYork.
Now, the company has shut down their last remaining NewYork location, and has said they won’t be investing any more into VR during 2019. As reported by Variety , IMAX says the closure at AMC Kips Bay in NewYork comes as the conclusion of a pilot test. Only four centres remain: Toronto, LA, Bangkok and Manchester.

During a press event on Tuesday, Google finally revealed their Daydream View VR headset, a lightweight VR headset that will be compatible with Daydream Ready phones.
