Google and Sony both have intellectual property around waveguide designs similar in nature. They recently closed a $22M round co-led by Sony and Foxconn. Near-eye Optics Basics. Some of the most basic waveguides were first commercialized by Lumus Optics (coming out of Israeli military-industrial research).
