Excited to partner with @Sony on the launch of LinkBuds to provide immersive audio experiences for @NianticLabs apps.
Although Android XR isn’t properly open-source for the time being, Google hopes the OS will run on multiple partner headsets. While Samsung is said to be the first to launch an Android XR headset, Sony, Lynx, and XREAL are also planning to use the operating system.

UploadVR Ian Hamilton If you missed the news, Samsung finally revealed its standalone headset today, and Google revealed the Android XR platform that it will run. Worse, Google's most recent attempt at working with game developers, Stadia, spectacularly failed.
But AR/VR solutions are not limited to Google Glass, mobile apps for trying on shoes or accessories, and AR-based games. Google is acquiring "some of" HTC Vive's engineering team to "accelerate the development of the Android XR platform". As an interesting parallel: in late 2017 Google acquired some of HTC's mobile devices engineering team, and leveraged these engineers to vastly improve the hardware of its Pixel phones.

Expected to be rolled out in phases prior to the theatrical opening on November 17, 2017, the Justice League VR experience will have a four-stage unveiling that culminates with a full blown room-scale experience for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, Google DayDream and Sony PSVR. Sony is Qualcomm's 5th partner building a headset based on the XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. The new device features 4K OLED microdisplays and is on the way from Sony Corporation rather than Sony Interactive Entertainment. As I said a few months ago , we are in the middle of a paradigm change: the cycle that started with the Quest is arriving at an end, and a new cycle driven by new technologies (mixed reality headsets) and new players (Apple, Google) is starting.
