So while Google Trends doesn’t show a significant search increase for VR during the film’s heyday in March, it appears both HTC and the film itself have better mobilized movie-goers in China for the future of VR.

As for apps, they perform well in the survey, but we’ll set them aside for now. These include social apps that offer sponsored lens experiences, as well as web AR.
Meanwhile, borderline cases on the above list are Zoom and Google Meet. This is the AR positioning that’s having the most traction today according to our survey research with Thrive Analytics. Other apps have greater overall usage but a smaller portion that’s AR-active, so these rankings don’t necessarily correlate to AR usage density.
