HTC Vive XR Elite HTC Vive XR Elite (Image by HTC Vive) The star of the event has for sure been the Vive XR Elite, HTC’s latest flagship headset. One is the high cost: HTC markets it as a consumer device, but at that price, not many consumers are going to buy it, so it will be a prosumer one.

We don’t know if it is just a reference design for external partners (like HTC) or it is an actual headset that Valve is producing. Someone hypothesizes that Valve may produce the headset by itself because: HTC has started its own store, Viveport , and so it is not pushing Steam as an official store anymore. What can this mean?

Razer opens pre-orders for OSVR HDK 2 virtual reality headset Today, Razer announced that it is opening up pre-orders for the company’s second OSVR development kit, called the HDK 2. It’s available for $399 and boasts a new 2160×1200, low-persistence OLED display running at 90 frames per second. Read more here.

I’m sure that after April, 20th, the Meta Quest ecosystem will appear even richer than it is now , creating a wider gap with other companies that may think about competing with the Quest, that is Pico, HTC, and even Apple. We know that now with the Oculus Touch and the HTC Vive, but even when VR was simply a screen strapped to your head many felt that hands were the future. We began to develop The Gallery on the first Oculus devkit with the Razer Hydra (a Sixense technology) to deliver surrogate hand tracking and body presence back in 2013.

I would have loved this to come as a standard option for the device.

It takes about 8 minutes for the Game Master to walk you through the vest and backpack (which houses an Alienware PC gaming laptop), OSVR HDK2 headset and Razer headphone/microphone before running through the two-handed assault rifle (another 7 minutes). The Game Master turns on the game, which allows you to see and then pick up your rifle.
