Sony closes its game studio in Manchester. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony is closing its Manchester-based game studio, that it opened in 2015 to produce ‘AAA’ PSVR exclusives. It is to be understood if the projects it was working on have been scrapped or they have been transferred to another studio internal to Sony.

The Sony game was nominated for four DICE Awards this year, but failed to take home any of them. Created by Fable and Oculus and powered by Unreal Engine, the film has been to Tribeca, the Chicago Film Festival and the Emmys. ASTRO BOT Rescue Mission has experience as a runner-up. Last year, Pixvana lost the title to Ultrahaptics.

The demo was a modified Unity XR Interaction Toolkit sample, because the device has already an SDK for Unity (while the Unreal one is still in the works). Of course, a pen has more limited use cases than haptic gloves, but for the niches where this device can be applied (e.g. surgery training), I think it’s great.
