Shuhei Yoshida (aka ‘Shu’) has left Sony, closing a near 32-year chapter of his life with the company. After a mixed year for VR hardware sales in 2016, two new separate reports are painting a more optimistic outlook for the VR market going forward. In a new consumer VR report just released by SuperData Research , the findings show that global VR hardware revenue is expected to hit $3.6 billion in 2017, up 142% year-over-year.

Oculus Quest has been the accelerant that the VR industry needs. Demand exceeding supply is the inverse of what we and most industry watchers have expected for the VR hardware marketplace. The former stems from Facebook’s VR investments that yield hardware that’s cheaper than it should be.
I t’s time for another round of our periodic exercises to zero in on Oculus Quest unit sales. As background, these exercises are compelled by the fact that companies in early-stage sectors like VR don’t disclose unit sales ( except Sony ).
