As someone who studies the psychology and ergonomics of virtual and augmented technologies, I’ve long known the key to mass adoption lies in a positive user experience, which virtual reality is now poised to deliver. After decades of speculation, anticipation, hype, and disappointment, is 2020 virtual reality ’s breakout year?
In this context, a team of researchers from the University of Kent (UK), RISE Ltd , and the University of Cyprus conducted a study on the use of virtual reality exposure therapy for patients with eating disorders. The results of the study are already published in the Human-Computer Interaction Journal.
Or we can put on device on our head (a head-mounteddisplay or HMD) that completely occludes us from the real world allowing us to enter a completely simulated environment which we can walk around and interact in because the computer is sensing our physical actions: this is Virtual Reality or VR.
WorldViz virtual reality solutions are being used in a variety of ways in learning institutions, from enhancing virtual learning and collaboration, boosting academic research, studying human and behavioral interactions, to enhancing student language and culture. Read more case studies here. Eric Hodgson.
Examples of head measurements (Image by Rob Cole). Other examples are scuba diving masks or full-face motorcycle helmets, although neither of these have the added complication of housing a head-mounteddisplay that relies on a good fit for the correct optical presentation of the display to the eyes.
To help do that, I coordinate engineering efforts internal to Epic as well as well as manage relationships with other companies like Oculus, Valve and Samsung to make sure that UE4 lets people maximize the potential of the engine to the fullest and that it’s easy to use. How did you get here? Even just that was incredibly powerful.
the world leader in Augmented and Virtual Reality-based knowledge transfer for industry and education, together with the University of Bologna, Italy, announces the world’s first fully-accredited Master’s degree in both Innovation studies and Extended Realities (XR). IRVINE, CA, August 27, 2019 – EON Reality Inc.,
Just a few years ago I found the Oculus meeting room hidden in a corner of the show floor where they were showing the HD prototype of the Rift featuring improved resolution. TwinCam is an omni-directional stereoscopic live-viewing camera that reduces motion blur and latency during head rotation in a head-mounteddisplay.
And we're leveraging virtual reality displays that prevent you from needing to have a full projector dome and full scale replica cockpit, since that's all now in the headmounteddisplay. Alan: It's funny, we have to do studies to prove what we know inherently to be right. And it will be as real as you can get.

And it was so expensive, and a head-mounteddisplay could cost $70,000. We can do larger scale studies. It takes a little bit time to do the studies to demonstrate safety and efficacy, but we’re in the process of doing that. And it also wasn’t very comfortable to wear. We know that.
The Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab has a focus on exploring and studying how VR technology can promote pro-social behavior, such as helping us better understand how our behavior affects the world's ecology, how our behavior affects other people, and studying how we can shift attitudes and shift behavior using virtual reality technology.

We've found and we've seen studies which show that classic CDTs computer based training you've attention level is in the low teens. But this is something interesting that I think will be a long term study for these efficiencies, and how can we make things even more immersive? Just give em a little nudge and you'll see people freak out.

As a side note, I’m so glad we collectively stuck with calling it head-mounteddisplays, and not something like “VR Helmet”, “VR Glasses”, or any of the other many attempts to call it something else. And then the Oculus Kickstarter happened. non-literal quote from head professor). Don’t have one yet? VR was here.
LET’S TALK OCULUS: DRM NO MORE AND PATENT FOR NEW VR MOTION. Teleportation has become a common way to move users around a virtual environment, but Oculus was just granted a patent for a novel method of movement that could be more intuitive. When will doctors prescribe virtual reality instead of pills?
