HTC today announced Vive Flow, its latest standalone VR headset. While the company just recently released the enterprise-focused Vive Focus 3, the Vive Flow aims for the consumer market with a compact size and feature-set that HTC has designed around casual entertainment and wellbeing apps. HTC today announced its planning to release a new version of Vive Focus targeted at enterprise users, this time including integrated hardware support for two ultrasonically-tracked 6DOF controllers. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic (parent company of Shiftall), the MeganeX features an ultra-compact, lightweight design similar to that of the recently-announced HTC Vive Flow. The MeganeX resembles a pair of large bifocal glasses rather than a conventional VR headset like the Quest 2 or HTC Vive.
Based on videos provided by BrianMp16, the VR mod appears to support 6DoF head-tracking and at least some degree of motion controls. You can play the entirety of the legendary campaign from start to finish, all from an immersive first-person perspective.
At CES 2023 HTC revealed its new Vive XR Elite headset which is positioned as a Quest Pro competitor. In February, HTC unveiled its full 6DOF version of the company’s standalone VR headset targeted at enterprise users, Vive Focus Plus. Vive Focus Plus is slated to launch worldwide on April 15th on HTC’s Vive website for $800, which will be available in 25 markets with 19 supported languages. Vive Focus Plus Specs.
HTC earlier this month revealed a 6DOF controller dev kit for the Vive Focus standalone headset. When HTC revealed the Vive Focus 6DOF controller dev kit earlier this month , the company wasn’t ready to share details. New details have emerged about the device this week.

Launched today across all platforms including PSVR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive comes the Winter Update which includes custom matches, spectator mode, a new map, and support for TrackIR and Tobii for non-VR players. One of the most important parts of the update is invariably the ability to make your own custom matches.

The UK-based developer this month confirmed that Tethered is on its way to both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on PC. It doesn’t have controllers, and only features 3DOF headtracking; what it does have is a decidedly more approachable opera glasses-style design that lets you hold the headset with one hand so you can press it to your face without needing a headstrap, which could otherwise ward off some users.

While the Vive Focus initially launched with a single 3DOF controller, HTC recently announced a dev kit add-on which brings a pair of 6DOF controllers to the standalone headset. We got our first chance to try out the system today at an HTC press event in San Francisco.
Near the end of 2017, the company then launched Pico Neo with both 6DOF headtracking and 6DOF controllers, accomplished by ultrasonics. Working with HTC, the Pico provides app store access to both its own Pico Store as well as HTC’s multiplatform Vive Wave-based Viveport mobile store.
This footage shows how the work of two motion controllers can be operated with just one, by simulating a virtual second controller that can be synchronised with headtracking. The software also accommodates those with limited arm movement.
Options like hand-tracking and eye-tracking have made their way into the offering, and now ultrasonic tracking for 6DOF controller input is available, as noted in a press release by Goertek , the manufurating partner of the Snapdragon 845 VRDK.

The hardware consisted of blue HTC Vive Pros connected to the gaming PCs above. The HTC Vive Pros were tethered, so there was no latency but the game did have a peculiar dense, dreamlike aspect to it, which often stems from lower refresh rates. Perhaps more like 60fps or 45fps with reprojection to 90hz?
