In this article we compare three standalone VR devices which will be available worldwide this year: the Oculus Go, Lenovo Mirage Solo, and HTC Vive Focus. Oculus Go – Value Oriented. HTC today announced its planning to release a new version of Vive Focus targeted at enterprise users, this time including integrated hardware support for two ultrasonically-tracked 6DOF controllers. Based on videos provided by BrianMp16, the VR mod appears to support 6DoF head-tracking and at least some degree of motion controls. The headset’s purported launch date is just a few days after Google’s annual I/O developer conference which runs from May 8th to 11th.
In February, HTC unveiled its full 6DOF version of the company’s standalone VR headset targeted at enterprise users, Vive Focus Plus. Vive Focus Plus is slated to launch worldwide on April 15th on HTC’s Vive website for $800, which will be available in 25 markets with 19 supported languages. Vive Focus Plus Specs.
Launched today across all platforms including PSVR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive comes the Winter Update which includes custom matches, spectator mode, a new map, and support for TrackIR and Tobii for non-VR players. One of the most important parts of the update is invariably the ability to make your own custom matches.

Headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive alone will run you anywhere from $600 to $800 depending on your set up. Well, Facebook and Oculus heard your concerns and yesterday they took a pretty significant step towards a more reasonably priced VR future. The answer is in a new technology called “asynchronous spacewarp.”
It doesn’t have controllers, and only features 3DOF headtracking; what it does have is a decidedly more approachable opera glasses-style design that lets you hold the headset with one hand so you can press it to your face without needing a headstrap, which could otherwise ward off some users.
The UK-based developer this month confirmed that Tethered is on its way to both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on PC. Options like hand-tracking and eye-tracking have made their way into the offering, and now ultrasonic tracking for 6DOF controller input is available, as noted in a press release by Goertek , the manufurating partner of the Snapdragon 845 VRDK.
The footage shows people playing on an HTC Vive, but it seems reasonable to assume support for the Oculus Rift and Touch will be included as well. From the gameplay footage shown above, it’s clear this isn’t just a headtracking port but is instead fully articulated VR game.
This footage shows how the work of two motion controllers can be operated with just one, by simulating a virtual second controller that can be synchronised with headtracking. The software also accommodates those with limited arm movement.

The hardware consisted of blue HTC Vive Pros connected to the gaming PCs above. The HTC Vive Pros were tethered, so there was no latency but the game did have a peculiar dense, dreamlike aspect to it, which often stems from lower refresh rates. Perhaps more like 60fps or 45fps with reprojection to 90hz?

Just in time for the holiday season, cinematic VR pioneer, Jaunt, has launched its custom Jaunt VR App for PlayStation VR, adding it to their existing integrations in iOS, Android, Gear VR, Google Daydream, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and major desktop browsers.

While the Windows VR headsets are often criticized for the precision of their hand-tracking, I was surprised to find how well they hold up in practice even with a fast paced, highly active game like Beat Saber (2018). With the release of the Oculus Touch controllers , both of the major headsets — Oculus Rift and HTC Vive — have motion tracked controllers and roomscale capabilities. Head-tracking is one thing, but moving my hands around while inside VR, evoking that sense of body language, is a magical thing.
The first VR headset to ship after Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus in 2014 was the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, using the Note 4 smartphone as its display, processing center, and battery. Later, the HTC Vive powered over PC by SteamVR promised to pair with your phone to keep you connected while in VR. And it works for iPad too.
Instead of using a scheme similar to Rigs or Resident Evil 7 (headtracked and analog stick aiming) the game asks you to hold up the controller and aim it in place of the Aim. It feels silly and awkward. Again though, that being said, it’s worth restating how great the Aim feels.
Unfortunately, back then I only did the analysis for the HTC Vive. In the meantime I got access to an Oculus Rift, and was able to extract the necessary raw data from it — after spending some significant effort, more on that later. This strange little feature, included as part of the company’s upcoming Entertainment Hub storefront, takes AAA games and ‘upscales’ them to run inside the HTC Vive. Despite being on Vive with two base stations facing me, positional tracking was completely disabled in this mode.
