More than four years after I first caught wind of their tech, CREAL’s light-field display continues to be one of the most interesting and promising solutions for bringing light-fields to immersive headsets. But you won’t really see the magic until you see a light-field with both eyes and head-tracking.
You can play the entirety of the legendary campaign from start to finish, all from an immersive first-person perspective. Based on videos provided by BrianMp16, the VR mod appears to support 6DoF head-tracking and at least some degree of motion controls.
A reliable player that satisfies the average user’s needs should have the following features: Compatible with various video formats; Capable of accessing media from various sources, such as local storage and URLs; Allow the user to set various parameters for an optimal viewing experience; Good headtracking with reduced latency.
The immersive nature of virtual reality makes the often dull world of finance more compelling for people. Immersive learning environments provide visual and tactile stimuli. High-resolution imagery and low-latency head-tracking brought people into a virtual environment. That includes banking. you might ask.
Apple delivers an immersive movie experience through a set of wireless headphones, putting the Apple TV 4K ahead of Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google Chromecast.
Quest 2, Quest 3S, and Quest 3 have always been good at playing immersive games, but the underlying Horizon OS software that powers them continues to be rough around the edges as Meta has prioritized adding features rather than polish. These improvements will be appreciated most by those who have already spent lots of time in VR.
Both headsets only offer 3DOF headtracking, and include a single 3DOF controller. The company says the new camera was included after continuous discussions with the team at NuEyes , a company using immersive headsets to help the visually impaired. ARPost has covered plenty of events in AltspaceVR before, from Burning Man being held virtually in the platform, to the XR Safety Week using it to make talks on immersive technology more… immersive. Although, because AltspaceVR avatars don’t have arms, sometimes hand tracking makes things a little more awkward.
Immersed claims Visor is the future of remote work. Immersed covered the cost of my flights from the UK to its event in Texas, which made it possible for me to attend. Who Is Immersed? The Immersed app supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. Critics claim it's a scam. What Is Visor?
Immersed shared a through-the-lens clip showing Visor's passthrough and hand tracking working. Who Is Immersed? The Immersed app supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. To allay claims that Visor's software wasn't real, a few days ago Immersed shared three clips of the headset working for the first time. What Is Visor?

Practically untouched from its original head-tracked input scheme, the game marks a soft reset in XR game development as developers assess how to approach Vision Pro’s lack of controllers. Proton Pulse , originally created for the Oculus Rift DK1 development kit in 2013, has been re-released on Apple Vision Pro this week.
Tracking system : 6DOF, camera based inside-out headtracking. Its IMU-based body tracking system, HaritoraX , has been on the Japanese market for some time now though, which better positioned the company to dive deeper into the world of XR hardware development. Weight : Approx. 250g (8.8oz) – Without cable.
That means you’re not going to get the same highly immersive experience. Plus, while the Apple Vision Pro can automatically adjust IPD for you, using built-in eye tracking, this isn’t something offered by the Quest 3S. To reduce costs, however, Meta replaced these lenses with a set of simpler Fresnel lenses in the Quest 3S.
With 4K Micro OLED screens for each eye, and state-of-the-art pancake lenses, it promises an exceptionally immersive experience. The XR startup has actually experimented with a few other headsets (and accessories) in the past, such as its initial MeganeX headset, and a series of body tracking devices.
The headset is high-end standalone, meaning it doesn’t rely on a PC, but still manages to include the positional head and hand tracking that makes high-end headsets so immersive. Revealed today by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Quest took a premier spot in today’s Oculus Connect keynote.
As entertaining as they can be however, most examples of the still-budding medium lack many of the features that add the extra level of immersion shown by more advanced VR experiences. Key components such as room-scale VR, parallax effects and head-tracking add to the realism of virtual experiences by making movement seem much more natural.
AntVR’s 120° field-of-view prototype | Photo by Road to VR Naturally, the most visually immersive among them (the 120° FoV) was the most interesting to me, and it also stands apart from the other two because it uses two displays per-eye (or you might call it two halves of a display, per-eye).
He’s already taken the Rfactor 2 beta for a spin in VR with the Rift and the results he captured look nothing short of intense; you can see him in action in the video heading this article. Photo courtesy Studio 397.
The popular forms of mobile VR headsets, such as the Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream View and Cardboard, are currently limited to rotational headtracking, meaning that you can look around comfortably from a single vantage point, but movements of the head through 3D space (like leaning forward or backward) cannot be tracking.
This is especially noticeable in younger generations whose tech literacy and immersion in social platforms dwarf some of us old folk. Here we will explore how this will only get more far out with the explosion of augmented reality and immersive media. Background Examples. Image provided courtesy of QReal.
Entertainment, gaming, and workplaces will be the first to widely adopt XR solutions, as the benefits of immersive experiences are more visible for these sectors. We see that most people got their first immersive “VR” experience with a simple combination of Cardboard and Youtube VR.
It doesn’t have controllers, and only features 3DOF headtracking; what it does have is a decidedly more approachable opera glasses-style design that lets you hold the headset with one hand so you can press it to your face without needing a headstrap, which could otherwise ward off some users.
While virtual reality surely has high performance requirements to maintain a comfortable experience, immersive AR may ultimately require a greater level of performance if we’re to achieve the theoretical ideal.
Presence researcher Richard Skarbez thinks of these two components as “immersion” and “coherence,” and we previously discussed his presence research where he found that both illusions are vital for a deep sense of presence.
The VR experience is enhanced by Positron’s Voyager platform, featuring guided 360-degree motion control, head-tracked 3D audio and haptic integration—allowing you to experience the world of The Mummy in an entirely new way.

While the $600 standalone headset has since made its way westward, shifting away from consumers and emphasizing its use in the enterprise market, the controller remained a sticking point for users and developers who found its 6DOF optical headtracking and 3DOF controller tracking to be pretty strange bedfellows.
The gameplay is tight, the head-tracking is responsive, and the multiplayer is impressively stable. “We The immersiveness of VR and the knowledge that you are actually wrecking another person with a VR headset makes it so much more fun.”.
Many spatial audio solutions ignore real world physics, and end up producing unrealistic audio experiences that throws you out of immersion (especially if you are an audiophile). This is why they created the Waves NX head tracker. If you want to try it yourself, Waves has a web demo which uses your webcam for headtracking audio.
I didn’t get to try it but Sony has shown the headset with a soft peripheral blocker add-on for when you’d rather have less reflections and more immersion. That made the experience quite choppy—probably not running at a steady 90 FPS as it should—which made the head-tracking feel sub-par.
The first standalone VR headsets offering inside-out positional headtracking are soon to hit the market: the Lenovo Mirage Solo (part of Google’s Daydream ecosystem), and HTC Vive Focus. But both headsets have controllers which track rotation only, meaning that hand input is limited to more abstract and less immersive movements.
Now that that’s out of the way… With the launch of a range of VR headsets and the deployment of the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft has orchestrated an impressive initial take on immersive computing and VR-enabled Windows. Setup is truly a breeze with native support under Windows 10 and no external sensors required for tracking.
