It is a perfect strategy, that makes NVIDIA able to offer very comprehensive end-to-end solutions (e.g. an ARM chips can be installed on IoT sensors that communicate to a server where an NVIDIA card is used to perform machine learning on the data). HTC and Valve do this with their Vive controllers that are super low latency and extremely accurate and Oculus does this with their touch controllers and their extremely natural ergonomics. The real improvements are increased performance, power savings and support for Leap Motion.

Object tracking : Hyperion allows the Leap Motion Controller 2 camera to track AR Markers (also known as fiducial markers) enabling tracking of any object. The second is that “mistaken model of the strategic motivations”, which seems to aim at the fact that Meta has a clear strategy that is not (only) about data mining this time.

It would be ideal to copy the strategies that Android already employs on the phones , where a popup asks you if you want to give some permissions to the app that you have just opened. What if you want to experiment with AI and MR and you don’t want to wait for Meta/Pico/HTC to provide access to the camera feed? in the toilet).

Because if Apple is just going to repeat the same use cases of the HTC Vive and Meta Quest 2, but selling it at $3000, it is just going to fail spectacularly. That’s why the headset should be available by the end of the year, and my bet is that Apple is trying to have it ready before the holidays. But the big question is the “how”.

Two more Optitrack pucks on each hand or arm and the use of Leap Motion (which recently got big funding ) or gloves could provide the final bit of finger tracking for complete full-body immersion. HTC is developing its own tracking puck that’s already been distributed to developers that could perform many of these same functions.
