The past week has been a pretty interesting one for the tech world: between Microsoft Ignite, Unity Unite, and the OpenAI drama, there has been a lot to follow. Unity 6 takes back the original way of specifying engine versions and abandons the confusing one that bound a new Unity version to the year it was released.
A new FCC listing appears for an HTC Vive headset. And in fact, a new request to FCC for a new device has arrived from HTC. FCC certifications are requested before releasing an electronic device in the US (to certify that it is safe to be used), so this is a clear sign that HTC is going to release a new headset soon.
They sold this money machine to focus on a technology that is currently not making any relevant money. Then the management of the camera will happen through the functionalities exposed by Camera2 in Android and WebCamTexture in Unity, which are the ones developers have always used with smartphones.
The same luck has not happened to employees at Niantic at Unity. Unity, instead, is firing 4% of its employees, and this may seem weird considering that in the last months it has proceeded to hundred-millions-dollars acquisitions. HTC releases its “metaverse phone”. Other relevant news. Image by Mojo Vision).
Thanks to the force feedback, the user can really feel the drilling machine in his hands (Image by SenseGlove). Inside the box you find: 1x SenseGlove right 1x SenseGlove left 1x SenseGlove linkbox 1x power cable 1x USB connector cable short (2m/ 6.5ft) 2x USB connector cable long (3m/ 10ft) 2x HTC tracker mounts including screws 1x manual.
It showed what is its vision for the long-term future: AR glasses that are intelligent enough to learn about your behavior and to examine the context you are in so that to be able to already provide you suggestions about what they can do to help you. Vive Facial Tracker works also with non-HTC headsets. Learn more. Some XR fun.
Before leaving you to the best news of the week, I would like to highlight two notable things about my work: My crazy trolling game “The Unity Cube” has been featured in a video by Upload VR! Image by HTC Vive). HTC Vive Air is a design concept for a fitness-focused VR headset. Learn more. News worth a mention.
Disclaimer: HTC provided three of their Vive Tracker 3.0 What is an HTC Vive Tracker? Whilst the first part of this article looked at the history of the HTC Vive Tracker and its three different versions, the second part will focus on some practical experiments with the latest HTC Vive Tracker 3.0. HTC Vive Tracker 3.0
At SIGGRAPH this week the Boston-based startup is showing its modified HTC Vive which include EEG ( Electroencephalography ) sensors along the interior of the headstrap. According to Neurable, this works using machinelearning to interpret “your brain activity in real time to afford virtual powers of telekinesis.”
Gesture recognition: Some haptic gloves can work alongside artificial intelligence and machinelearning algorithms. These gloves are also compatible with HTC VIVE, Meta Quest, and Pico Neo headsets, offering excellent versatility. Plus, the gloves are compatible with various software platforms, such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
Last year we had nReal showing us that AR can be trendy, and HTC making us dream with the Vive Cosmos. Yes, the biggest companies were not there with a booth (Oculus will probably target the OC6, HTC the VEC, etc…), but it is the first time that I read the XR news from CES and I dont’ remain surprised. nReal clones.
I’ve studied at important universities like UC Berkeley, and I’ve worked on many technical projects (for work or personal interest) in electronics, optics, brain-machine interface , natural language processing, etc…. What lessons have you learned during these years? What is Kura’s story? All APIs have a plain C version.
You must learn how to play games without falling in the dead zones. Comparison of the speakers solutions in the Oculus Quest (left) and HTC Vive Focus Plus (right). This lets the user learn while having fun. The same Unity plugin is able to serve all Oculus devices and this helps a lot in developing cross-platform titles.
The VR route is instead being pursued by HTC (with its VEC event happening soon) and IEEE. The idea of the algorithm is rendering the VR experience at low resolution and then use MachineLearning magic to expand this low-res rendering to the native resolution of Quest while preserving the visual fidelity.
Watching the video, it is possible to see that thanks to some machinelearning magic, the user is able to have in his hands two controllers full of capacitive sensors and the system is able to predict with very good accuracy the full pose of the hand , even in complicated conditions like the hand being full of sweat.
The spokesperson described the technology as a combination of inverse kinematics (IK) and machinelearning (ML). Unless you’re using body tracking hardware such as HTC’s Vive Trackers, IK for VR tends to be inaccurate though – there are just many potential solutions for each given set of head and hand positions.
Our software and hardware engineering and research teams have used a variety of equipment that rides on top of our in-house developed technosports platform , ranging from the HTC Vive Pro and its motion detectors, the (now unfortunately defunct Myo) sensors, the ZED stereo cameras, and Microsoft’s HoloLens. Keep up the good work!
Disciplines will include research and development (R&D) for AI, machinelearning (ML), quantum information, blockchain, and data science. Unity, The VRARA, and XR Cunningham also serves as VRARA’s Central Florida Chapter President.
Users can use HMD devices such as Google Cardboard, Oculus Quest, Rift or HTC Vive to experience an imaginary environment. It has the ability to create a cross platform code where users can create their projects in either JavaScript, Unity, Xamarin, and Cordova. It has applications in training and educational use cases.
But I didn’t want to switch to a 2D workflow once I imported into Unity, and so I used Virtual Desktop’s display overlay to work in Unity on a virtual big screen. With this approach, I was able to preview my scene in VR while still maintaining control over my variables in Unity. Why did you decide to create this project?
HTC is now selling certified refurbished Vive HMDs for $400. HTC has started selling again the OG Vive headset, but this time selling second-hand devices. This also means that HTC is not abandoning the headset and so it will be easy to find second-hand replacement parts, something that is not possible for the Rift CV1, for instance.
Like many other technologies, there is no perfect roadmap to learning XR. Nevertheless, I have tried my level best to come up with a generalized learning process for the same. Learn programming from YouTube, Udemy, Udacity and a thousand other free platforms. There are tons of online resources to learn these.
Part of all of this is merit of Jeri (Image by HTC). Compare that to the HTC Vive that has like 40 giant infrared lights that strobe constantly to synchronize everything and spinning lasers with infrared light… and then the Kinect that has this huge laser illumination system, so those systems work totally different than ours.
It released with the launch of the HTC Vive in early 2016 and Facebook’s Oculus Touch controllers for Rift late in the year. It didn’t take them long to decide their legacy project, a 2D puzzle game called Fantastic Contraption that relied on creative thinking to build machines, could be adapted to VR. Learning New Skills.
Eye Tracking Apart from sessions a few years ago using the HTC Vive Pro Eye and Microsoft Hololens, I didn’t have any experience with eye tracking. The core machine-learning algorithms interpret the camera feed to generate a real-time stream of data points such as pupil size, gaze vector, and eye openness.
But this time, Valve has made it without the collaboration of HTC. The specs list is very similar to the one of the HTC Vive Pro. I tried it in Beijing at HTC offices and I was amazed by this possibility. The Valve Index is the first PC VR headset completely produced by Valve, from the design to the manufacturing stage.
January saw HTC Vive hold its first developer jam in five years, created in collaboration with Admix, Corsair and VRFocus. Each team had two HTC Vive Pro Eye’s to play with – the company’s latest enterprise-focused headset – meaning eye-tracking needed to feature in some way.
Allen discussed the benefits of immersive learning platforms, citing a company study on the return on investment (ROI) for clients via VR training. Regarding upskilling challenges across multiple verticals, Allen discussed the costs and expenses of creating immersive learning experiences. Oberon Technologies.
Conventional designs like the Oculus Touch, Valve Index, and HTC controllers are manufactured using relatively thin-walled, injection-molded plastic casings, usually split into two halves. A heavy lesson was learned in this instance, ouch! So what was this new idea then? So here we are, some images showing the Modular v.1
And today we're going to be learning how Holo-Light is redefining engineering across automotive, manufacturing, chemical, and myriad other industries using XR technologies. We need that machine over here. So I'm assuming you're streaming this down from the cloud, using probably Unity or something= Florian: Yeah. You have ISAR.

HTC has actually released that for the Vive Focus Plus … Well, according to the god John Carmack , it is something about which the company has discussed a lot and has also experimented a lot. It uses a new method of deep learning to reconstruct the pose of the hands of the user. Why not wireless? Vader Immortal episode 2.
