I’ve used my eyes to interact with a virtualworld before, but startup Neurable just enhanced that experience by reading my thoughts too. At SIGGRAPH this week the Boston-based startup is showing its modified HTC Vive which include EEG ( Electroencephalography ) sensors along the interior of the headstrap.
They sold this money machine to focus on a technology that is currently not making any relevant money. The first one of them, which is rather surprising, is that its developers are not passionate about virtualworlds. This is why some of the interfaces seem more suited for a website than a virtualworld.
Technology can augment the world around us, it can enhance the human experience, our capabilities, and also extend our reality to digital and virtualworlds. Do you remember when everyone was mocking HTC for its super-high prices and people were praising Meta for its cheap costs? This strategic partnership is very important and I ‘m sure it will make Meta perform huge steps forward in the enterprise world, where until now companies like Pico and HTC seemed to have the leadership.
Though the developers call it a “narrative VR action adventure,” the narrative turns out to be extremely light—bordering on mere lore and setting—with tidbits delivered as brief but well produced live-action videos that play on monitors in the virtualworld.
