HTC to reveal its headset at CES. After many weeks of teasing, HTC is finally ready to unveil its new headset at CES. I expect the usual HTC headset, with technical innovations, but a price that doesn’t make it compelling for users. Last August the Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) published its first report on the state of the VR industry based off of a survey for developers. The results suggested that marginally more developers were working on the HTC Vive than the Oculus Rift. It might take some time before we see big changes in these surveys.

In a keynote today Microsoft is revealing a long-awaited missing piece of its Windows mixed reality platform – motion controllers. According to Microsoft, the controllers would be shown on stage at its keynote but wouldn’t be available for hands-on demos at its Build developer conference this week.

Microsoft released its April Windows 10 update yesterday, and with it comes the official launch of SteamVR support for Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets. Windows VR devices still occupy a pretty minimal spot on Steam, accounting for a total of ~5% of total VR headsets reported in this month’s Steam Hardware Survey.

Microsoft has removed Windows Mixed Reality from Windows 11. With Windows 11 24H2, the latest major version of Microsoft's PC operating system, you can no longer use a Windows MR headset in any way - not even on Steam. Last month, we got to know that (according to a rumor) Samsung is working together with Microsoft on new AR glasses, most probably powered by a Qualcomm chipset. A study conducted by HTC Vive together with a Chinese university shows that Virtual Reality has much more addictive potential (+44%) than traditional flat gaming.
Today’s most immersive virtual reality systems, like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, rely on a bothersome tether to send power and high fidelity imagery to the headset at low latency. And companies like Microsoft have done a lot of research on reducing latency by doing predictive (also known as speculative) rendering.

But in the enterprise space, it has always been behind the competition of companies like HTC or Pico. Honestly speaking, this research by IDC has been sponsored by Facebook, so it is a bit like if I published a survey organized by me saying that I’m sexier than Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill… it is not much reliable.

HTC has finally revealed the price of the Vive Pro : it will cost $799 just to have the headset (no controller and no base stations, so you must already have a Vive 1 kit) and will be available for pre-orders since April, 5th. But, as Road To VR has stated, maybe HTC should have clarified that in all its marketing material.
