This night I woke up at 3am to participate in HTC Vive’s event on ENGAGE because I read that it was an “HTC VIVE LAUNCH EVENT” and I was super-confident in the launch of the Cosmos XR or at least of the Cosmos Play. Some of these key players, like ENGAGE, are companies in which HTC already invests into.
The extended reality environment is taking the retail and ecommerce landscape by storm. Offering a convenient way to provide consumers with product information, enhanced shopping experiences, and better customer service, XR is quickly becoming a table stakes part of the new digital retail space. What is interesting the most are not the features, that more or less are the same as most other headsets: integrated headphones, halo+headband, IPD adjustment, etc… It seems a mix of a Samsung Odyssey and an Oculus Rift S. After their fair share of delays , Facebook-owned Oculus is now officially caught up with back-ordered supplies of the Rift. The latest announcement comes on the heels of HTC announcing in June that their Vive VR system would be shipping orders within 72 hours, making HTC’s system much more accessible over the past month.
