A new FCC listing appears for an HTC Vive headset. And in fact, a new request to FCC for a new device has arrived from HTC. FCC certifications are requested before releasing an electronic device in the US (to certify that it is safe to be used), so this is a clear sign that HTC is going to release a new headset soon.

Mobile VR solutions like Samsung’s Gear VR currently employ rotational tracking only. Three infrared sensors, detecting the flashes from an HTC base station (Lighthouse technology), are attached to the front of the Gear VR headset and connected to a microcontroller, which collects the timing data.
Anyway, with the end of the life of Quest 2, this cycle finished and a new one started with Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro, Google and Samsung announcing their own headset, and other companies chasing them (e.g. with Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung, etc…) to convince hardware manufacturers to create headsets powered by Android XR.
Furthermore, HTC already has a setup that works without SteamVR stations , and it is more expensive than this one, but HTC has more experience with trackers. It’s interesting to see that the partnership between Google, Samsung, and Qualcomm is a long-term one. This could be huge. Expect it to be pricey, though.
Yesterday, during Samsung’s Upacked event, the technology giant gave a short but sweet insight into the future of its elusive but attention-grabbing Moohan headset. Samsung revealed the information on the device alongside its broader ecosystem updates, putting into perspective the value of a firm like Samsung in the XR space.
Both headsets support the Oculus Mobile SDK, the software which currently allows developers to build apps for Samsung’s Gear VR headset (which runs Oculus’ software and store). In order to support those other headsets, developers will need to build using the Mi VR SDK (which supports Unity and Unreal).
The main one regards the 4 devices we were waiting for this year , which in our opinion should have changed everything: Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro, Google-Samsung Headset, and PSVR 2. The Unity Beta to develop for the Vision Pro is still not available, so many devs like me can’t even play with the emulator.
Its userbase is superior to known PCVR headsets like the HTC Vive Pro and Pro 2 and most probably in the next weeks, it will also surpass the Pico 4. We don’t have much information about them, but Samsung trademarked the name “Samsung Glasses” some time ago, so this may be a possible name.
Unity now supports Vulkan for Oculus Quest. Unity has finally implemented Vulkan support for the Oculus Quest, in Unity 2019.3. Long story short, this means that using Vulkan instead of OpenGL, you may even have a +20% performances boost on your Unity apps for Quest. Samsung Odyssey+ is now at $230.
If this partnership is exclusive, Meta has just got a huge edge over its competitors like Samsung or Google. But a new report in Korean magazine “Daily Korea” states that Samsung may not be in a hurry to release its headset anymore, because Meta canceled its Quest Pro 2 plans with LG, and Apple is postponing its Vision Pro 2.

Its upcoming moves may reflect this pressure.
Today’s announcement indicated that most of the major VR imprints have been granted membership into the group including: Oculus, Valve, Unity, Epic, Samsung, and Google. HTC’s VR subsidiary, Vive, was not included as an included member of the Open XR Working Group. One name, however was missing from that list.
