HTC has now opened applications to its latest Vive X accelerator, the company’s $100 million program which aims to help grow the global AR/VR ecosystem by providing both software and hardware developers the right tools, expertise, and investment. HTC says there will be more locations yet to come.
HTC is now on its fourth batch in its $100 million accelerator program, which offers education, investment and mentorship to startups doing unique and and interesting things around VR and AR. A total of 17 startups spanning SanFrancisco, London, Taipei, Shenzhen, Beijing, and Tel Aviv have been selected.
HTC was seemingly the odd one out back at the initial announcement, but this week the company joined the group in support of the standard. HTC wasn’t initially part of the VirtualLink consortium which was the only glaring omission among the group otherwise consisting of the industry’s key hardware and software platform holders.

I n 2006, I attended a launch event in SanFrancisco for Microsoft Virtual Earth 3D. cities, starting with SanFrancisco. But that’s a non-starter for anyone outside of the few million people that own VR hardware (much less the compatible HTC and Oculus hardware).
