Sony is reportedly lowering near term sales figures for its upcoming PSVR 2 headset, allegedly halving initial sales projections based on lackluster preorders. Citing people familiar with deliberations, Sony reportedly told a supply partner to expect reduced display panel orders, allegedly stating that it only expects to sell 1.5
It was a good opening gambit to break up the Oculus/HTC Vive PC VR binary that had developed a year prior, although those Windows VR headsets weren’t just new hardware destined to hook into Steam content. We have also to consider that in 2019, most of VR companies (Valve, Oculus, HTC, etc…) have already launched their devices, and given that VR headsets have usually a lifecycle of 2-3 years, I’m not expecting them to announce something new next year. HTC will focus more on the enterprise market.

HTC predicts the rise of all-in-two devices. Many gaming pundits have been saying the PSVR has been missing from Sony's long term battle strategy due to a lackluster presence at both E3 and Tokyo Game Show. Despite the over 1 million PSVR units sold and the acclaim of content like Resident Evil 7 it does not seem to get the credit that the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift get.
