Google and MagicLeap today announced a “strategic technology partnership.” Meta and Samsung’s similar Gear VR project faced a similar fate. The company publicly announced last year that it was working with both Samsung and Qualcomm on just that. MagicLeap has had starts and stops of its own.
AT&T and MagicLeap formed a partnership last year which looked a lot like the one between Cingular (now merged with AT&T) and Apple which led to the launch of iPhone. MagicLeap’s marketing for its first AR headset, the MagicLeap One ‘Creator Edition’, has been… curious, to say the least.

Yesterday, during Samsung’s Upacked event, the technology giant gave a short but sweet insight into the future of its elusive but attention-grabbing Moohan headset. Samsung revealed the information on the device alongside its broader ecosystem updates, putting into perspective the value of a firm like Samsung in the XR space.
MagicLeap has entered a "multi-faceted, strategic technology partnership" with Google. The companies say the partnership will combine MagicLeap's "leadership in optics and manufacturing" with Google's "technology platforms". Google was an initial investor in MagicLeap, leading a $542 million funding round back in 2014.
This week, a curious hire opportunity appeared over at Samsung, just in time for its concurrent augmented reality/mixed reality headset push. Specifically, the role is filling an XR Director gap at Samsung Research America as part of the division’s MPS (Mobile Platform Services), SRA, and Immersive Experiences (IMEX) Team.
Donning an augmented reality headset, such as the Microsoft Hololens or the MagicLeap One, users can dive into a limitless workspace composed of content from your digital devices, anytime, anywhere.
With Android XR, Google wants to power a broad range of proprietary and third-party experiences, spanning all the way from the upcoming Samsung XR headset , to smart glasses, and extended reality applications infused with artificial intelligence. Google has already shared that its working with companies like Sony, MagicLeap, and Lynx.
Metaroom allows teams to collaborate over immersive visualisations of real-world spaces by leveraging room scanning features on Apple iPhone Pro or iPad Pro devices that generate a digital twin, allowing workers to access the data via the cloud ready to add additional information to an object for a chosen use case.
Samsung Eyes XR Director Hire This week, an interesting job opportunity surfaced at Samsung, coinciding with its push into augmented reality and mixed reality headsets. The XR Director will likely contribute to the development of the upcoming Moohan headset, as Samsung is actively pushing forward with this project.
