Tracking has been switched to inside-out , and Varjo now provides a set of controllers, manufactured by Razer, together with the headset. XR-4 also includes integrated audio for the first time for a Varjo headset. There is a lot of new to try in this device.
We often forget about the brightness of a display, but it is very important to simulate light sources in immersive realities: many VR displays nowadays are around 100 nits, while Varjo XR-4 features double of that number, meaning that lit scenes will appear more lively than ever. … but what about the Bionic Display?
My accumulative 30 minutes across three simulator-focused demos suggest VR1 definitely delivers the bulk of what’s promised, albeit with a few caveats (and features) that will probably push many towards the lower-priced alternative… but not everyone.
Razer – OSVR. Zero Latency. Industrial Training International – ITI Crane Simulator. Zero Latency – Zero Latency. Something to note, all nominees had to be centered on a virtual reality experience, and not an augmented reality experience. Nominees for VR Headset of the Year. HTC – Vive.
Created by Sensics and Razer, OSVR includes two independent components: 1) the OSVR software platform and 2) the open-source Hacker Development Kit VR headset. Latency comes from multiple sources including: how often do the sensors generate data? The Sensics team architected the OSVR software platform and is its official maintainer.
At the end of the visit, I was asked if I wanted to play around with a plane simulator that was there in the demo room. I never say no to a plane simulator, so I entered the cockpit, put on my head the Varjo XR-4, and started playing with the simulator. The mixed reality simulation was pretty good.
