You probably have heard about LeapMotion’s Project North Star , that should be able to offer people affordable augmented reality. Notice a LeapMotion sensor installed on top of it. Project North Star is an opensource augmented reality headset that LeapMotion has designed and gifted to the community.

According to the very famous market analysis company Gartner, Augmented Reality is no more an “emerging” technology, but it has graduated as a mature one. This meant that for Gartner, VR was not an emerging and experimental technology anymore, but it had already become something usable and useful. Gartner Hype Cycle 2019.
Acer, NVIDIA, Valve, Ubisoft, LeapMotion and many others joined the ecosystem. This allows applications to work without regards to the particular device or technology choice. MagicLeap is not commercial yet. We wanted to provide an open alternative to walled-garden, single-device approaches.

The technology is amazing, but I think it’s too rough to be reliably used nowadays in gaming. All of this is cool, but I think it’s also a smoke of hype.
How is XR (and technology in general) in Taiwan? Generally speaking, Taiwanese technology adoption has not blown my mind. While in the Mainland all people are running, competing and making technology go further at a crazy speed, here there is not that attitude. Personally, I enjoy going to both places.
