The SDK will support eye-tracked foveation and fixed foveation (like the one of Oculus Go); The Vive Focus will soon have finger tracking : for every hand, you will be able to have something similar to what LeapMotion offers. During the presentation, there has been almost no mention of the Cosmos.
DigiLens Founder & CTO Jonathan Waldern offered a glimpse of the device in a presentation at AWE USA 2018 earlier this month, and shared footage and photos of the AR HUD reference headset with Road to VR. Waldern also says that such displays could be used equally well in a VR mode by simply blocking out the incoming light.
On the last day, I tried many interesting technologies, but I selected two for this summary, which are the first two that I’ve tried: the new LeapMotion Controller by Ultraleap and the AR technology by LetinAR. You can see how it is in this picture, where I’ve put my hand for scale.

Also, LeapMotion tracking or the mixed reality cameras of Varjo XR-3 are not part of this model. T he only thing that actually never convinced me about Varjo devices are the lenses: both VR-2 and XR-3 have visible lens distortions , and we still don’t know if they are present also in this new headset.
Probably Ultraleap, or even when it was just LeapMotion, should have aimed to be bought by a headset manufacturer before all the major XR brands started developing hand tracking internally. I have no idea what will happen with all the hardware that has been sold and all the headsets that integrated an Ultraleap controller.
I also noticed something like two little white circles always present in the leftmost and rightmost edge of the image , probably due to some component next to the lenses (maybe for eye tracking?). It was quite noticeable and disturbed my experience in that scene. This effect was less evident in the subsequent application, though.

It is a device conceived only for this purpose and in fact, it doesn’t even offer what other present BCI devices propose, that is the ability to have the rough brain-waves readings, or the ability to understand the emotional status of the user (concentrated, relaxed, etc…). Hands-on with the demos.
They use AntiLatency tracking to provide positional tracking in a large setting to a VR headset and some props present in the scene. What I liked a lot was the artistic idea that they had: t hey took a series of paintings by the famous Belgian painter Bruegels and recreated them in real life, but with the setting of the present time.

First of all, the new Knuckles can track all the fingers in a great way : thanks to the sensors present on all the device, the runtime is able to detect the pose of all the fingers in an accurate way. This is possible thanks to capacitive sensors present on all the controller. The last point is the one that made my jaw drop.
LeapMotion have always had a knack for presenting complex ideas involved in their work in a visual way immediately graspable by the viewer. These latest demo’s illustrate that user-friendly fuzzy logic LeapMotion believe strike a neat balance between believable virtual reality and frustration-free human-digital interaction.
. — There were some high-profile flameouts in 2019, including Meta, ODG and Daqri, while others exited below previous funding totals (a veritable down-round), including LeapMotion. This is a perfectly valid construct but it’s arguably overused in nearly every conference presentation these days on AR’s status.
