One of the first accessories for AR/VR I had the opportunity to work on is the LeapMotion hands tracking controller : I made some cool experiments and prototypes with it and the Oculus Rift DK2. LeapMotion has also been the first important company I have interviewed in this blog. If you want, you can find it here below!
You probably have heard about LeapMotion’s Project North Star , that should be able to offer people affordable augmented reality. Notice a LeapMotion sensor installed on top of it. Project North Star is an opensource augmented reality headset that LeapMotion has designed and gifted to the community.
Object tracking : Hyperion allows the LeapMotion Controller 2 camera to track AR Markers (also known as fiducial markers) enabling tracking of any object. This technology is still at a prototype stage, and in fact, its field of view is just a ridiculous 11.7 I believe there will be many use cases for this.
Smith has been using an HTC Vive for the project though, instead of the kit’s position-tracked controllers, he can be seen on News 4 Jax using a LeapMotion sensor for hand-tracking. Expect to see plenty more reports of this kind of use of the technology going forward. Facebook Twitter Reddit More.
After significant breakthroughs in the sphere of AR and VR technology happened in recent years, and creation of relatively wide and available-for-mass consumer line of products, pent-up demand for more user-friendly interfaces (rather than for traditional controllers) began to form. If you’ve seen the movie ‘Ready Player One’ or have been to CES or other recent gaming/technology trade show, then odds are you’re at least somewhat familiar with the concept behind omnidirectional treadmills. An immersive VR locomotion solution that ditches the omnidirectional treadmill design in favor of a swivel chair.
Also, LeapMotion tracking or the mixed reality cameras of Varjo XR-3 are not part of this model. This is a necessity, otherwise, for that high resolution you would have needed a rendering farm, but it is amazing to see that the technology starts being implemented.
BCIs are still in the early stages, and even if they are evolving at a good pace, the technology for “brain control” is still not here. After all this study, a random light pattern appears, and I don’t see it. NextMind is more if you want to experiment with the technologies of the future. Final verdict.
Founded by a former lifelong “lazy eye” sufferer, medical technology firm Vivid Vision has already deployed to hundreds of eye clinics, with startling results in two independent studies. A five-year journey to become a global medical technology provider. How VR medical technology can hack your brain – for good.
I want to start this year and this decade (that will be pervaded by immersive technologies) with an amazing tutorial about how you can get started with Oculus Quest hands tracking SDK and create in Unity fantastic VR experiences with natural interactions! the ones from LeapMotion). Welcome to 2020!
The finger tracking can be improved and it is worse than the one of LeapMotion, also because every finger has not all its DOF tracked. But to learn something more advanced I would need a bit of time to study the whole SDK. you can feel when a drilling machine is on).
We of New Technology Walkers have taken there our MR fitness game HitMotion: Reloaded , and made hundreds of people try it. Chinese people study English in high school, but then they have little occasion to use it, so most of the time they lose the ability to understand it clearly. Smile and have fun.
At the same time, GetVu wants to bring a new level of control to augmented reality with LeapMotiontechnology. After experimenting with a GetVu glass prototype and the LeapMotion Controller, they travelled to San Francisco to join us here at the LEAP.AXLR8R. Accuracy is the key here.
At a recent Designers + Geeks talk , Jody Medich and Daniel Plemmons talked about some of the discoveries our team has made (and the VR best practices we’ve developed) while building VR experiences with the Oculus Rift and the LeapMotion Controller. One study involved getting people to adapt to having a third arm.
Chris is a 3D artist and programmer studying at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center. We’ve worked with LeapMotion before, but we were surprised by how easy it was to integrate LeapMotion and Oculus and get started with development. Requires: Windows, Oculus Rift. Gavin Wood has!
Recently, we caught up with Vivid Vision co-founder James Blaha to ask him how he’s retraining people’s brains using VR and hand tracking technology. What’s involved with your current medical study, and what do you hope to discover? We’re well underway on the study in collaboration with UCSF.
