New info on Microsoft abandoning the Hololens 3. Last week we all heard the news about Microsoft abandoning the HoloLens 3, and the denial of it by Alex Kipman and Microsoft itself. A 3D-based experience with six degrees of freedom built in Unity or Unreal Access to source code, with ability to implement a 2MB SDK.

Using the Unreal Engine 4, NASA has created an extremely detailed and realistic VR model of the interior of the ISS, and astronauts use the Manus gloves in the model for training simulations. This is not NASA’s first foray into mixed reality – they also have a partnership with the Microsoft Hololens for support on the ISS as well.

The company switched to an enterprise model , but apart from a rebranding and an assistance service it is not clear what it actually means, especially if compared with the enormous enterprise offering that Microsoft is giving with HoloLens (Azure services, integration with Teams, etc…). Unreal Engine 4.25 adds many XR features.
