Last Monday, I walked three blocks uphill on Mason St in SanFrancisco to the Fairmont Hotel to demo a stealth product that had been touted to me as one of the biggest advancements in XR tech this side of Magic Leap.
The same rings true for Owlchemy Labs, the award winning studio behind Job Simulator and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality. After scoring a partnership with Microsoft, they’ve talked at length about relocating to SanFrancisco. In May 2017, Owlchemy Labs was acquired by Google.

A lot of what I do is try to take new and emerging technology -- obviously right now, VR/AR/XR; all that falls into it -- and using that to enhance messaging and storytelling, training, simulation, all of that type of stuff. Upload VR has been able to visit Kura offices in SanFrancisco and try the technology behind the Kura Gallium glasses, the AR devices that promise a 150° FOV, a resolution that goes up to 8K, variable focus, and brightness that allows for outdoor usage. Minecraft porting on Quest is “Under Review” by Microsoft. Some XR fun.
New amazing content is coming, like Assassin’s Creed VR or GTA San Andreas, and some very popular VR titles like Population One or Beat Saber, are exclusive to its standalone platform. It’s very hard to compete with all these features. If this happens, PCVR people can have great titles to play again; Hybrid games.
