Originally scheduled to take place May 4th through the 6th at the McEnery Convention Center in SanJose, California, Facebook states in an official blog update that it will be canceling the in-person element of the conference in order to remain inclusive to the many international developers who make their way to the event each year.
Whether it be a personalized system such as the Looking Glass Portrait or more advanced experiences such as Microsoft’s multi-lingual mixed reality hologram powered by the HoloLens 2, it’s clear we’re entering a new era in immersive technology.
Before the postponement, a litany of companies stepped back from GDC 2020 such as Epic, Microsoft, Unity, Sony, Electronic Arts, Facebook, and Kojima Productions. The city of San Francisco, where GDC was set to take place, also issued a state of emergency only a few days prior.
