So (a bit late) here you are a list of some of the most relevant XR trends to follow in 2024, with some predictions of what to expect next. These new headsets have hybrid virtual and mixed reality features, natural interactions and come at a high price : Vision Pro costs $3500 and the Samsung headset is rumored to be around $2000.
This week in XR hasn’t had any explosive news, but it was interesting nonetheless: in particular we had cool info on AR glasses, with some news from Kura, Lynx, and Samsung. Samsung AR glasses concept has been leaked. Popular Twitter leaker WalkingCat has leaked two trailer videos about two AR glasses by Samsung.
According to the Korean outlet JoongAng (which we all read every day), Samsung headset is codenamed “Infinite” and will be announced at a Samsung Unpacked event happening in the second half of 2024. After that, the headset will be released in December of the same year. I’m very curious to see what this will turn out to be.

While Oculus is getting all the glory for the Quest, its competitors are not sleeping. Huawei has upgraded its sleek VR glasses and now they support 6DOF movement and 6DOF controllers that are very similar to the Oculus Touch. In terms of market share, Samsung leads the charge with Gear VR with 489,500 Gear VR shipments which translates to a market share of 21.5%. Not far behind Samsung is Sony with 429,000 units shipped in Q1 which represents a market share of 18.8%. In 3rd place after Samsung and Sony was HTC with the HTC Vive.
Oculus Touch controllers were just announced to ship late in 2016. Xbox gamepads shipped with the Oculus Rift headset. All the other major companies (Samsung, Huawei, etc…) are working on AR and Apple for sure can’t stop experimenting with if it doesn’t want to miss the next communication platform as Microsoft did with Windows Phone. Oculus is working on 2nd gen VR. We don’t know what Oculus will present, but we have some hints.
