Red 6 Raises $30M in Series A funding to further its delivery of Augmented Reality military training. M contract to develop an AR system to train pilots in air-to-air combat, something which has not changed since WW1. Sony showcases upcoming VR titles for Playstation VR. The launch on Quest has gone pretty well , and the game has had good feedback from the press (apart from some graphical glitches that can be solved in future updates) and very positive reviews on the Oculus Store. And since the game has trained them for a war scenario, they are also very dangerous. Now there is the Oculus Quest.

PlayStation VR has been the most successful headset until now (if we exclude the crappy mobile viewers), but now it is pretty dated and people were wondering what Sony was going to do. Some people started to think that Sony could have abandoned VR.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) researchers unveiled a prototype motion controller recently which showcases experimental techniques into full hand tracking using machine learning and capacitive sensors. The first one comes from Google, and it is called Genie 2 , a foundation world model capable of generating an endless variety of action-controllable, playable 3D environments for training and evaluating embodied agents . The fact that it can be played by an agent is relevant to train AI agents in synthetic worlds.

Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Engine, said it would consider building a launch title for Sony’s “next VR platform” during negotiations about Fortnite cross-play on PlayStation in 2018. With the company’s next VR headset not expected to launch until at least 2022, it’s unclear if the Sony took up the offer.
