Virtual Worlds Grid gained the most land area, the equivalent of 964 standard region, followed by ZetaWorlds with 447 regions, 3rd Rock Grid with 231, Kitely with 221, and PMGrid closing the fifth spot with 48 regions. OpenSim is a free, open source virtual world platform that’s compatible with the Oculus Rift.

You’ve got these avatars and these virtual worlds and something just really grabbed me about a future in VR. I was lucky enough to get a job at UC Santa Barbara in a combination social psychology lab and computer science hub , where we were using VR to run experiments, to simulate the social world. This is 1999.

And the number of regions went down by 839 standard region equivalents, as Virtual Worlds Grid turned off the less-used servers to allow for a greater than usual load on its welcome regions.
